“Work-Life Balance” — Or Whatever That Is…

Working & Focused

Hi, my name is Nikko Avery, and I’m an Operations Coordinator for The Good Home Team in Plano, TXand a full-time college student.

If you are reading this, there is a good chance you are also doing the most. Maybe you are:

  • Running a real estate team
  • Juggling open houses, spreadsheets, and strategy
  • Or working in real estate and saving lives as a nurse on weekends (yes, I know people who do that—y’all are superheroes)

Let’s talk about the unicorn we’re all chasing work-life balance.

Is Work-Life Balance Even Real?

Let’s be real. Sometimes, balance feels like one of those motivational buzzwords people use while their dog naps on a throw pillow that costs more than my car payment.

Meanwhile, for the rest of us—living in chaos, late-night assignments, and an inbox that multiplies like a rabbit—balance feels like a mythical creature.

But the deal I have made with myself (and maybe it will help you too):

You don’t have to do it all perfectly. You must do it with purpose.

What’s Worked for Me (AKA How I Keep My Sanity)

1. Time Blocking is My Ride-or-Die

If it is not on my calendar, it is not happening. I block out everything: team calls, study time, deep work, and even snack breaks. It helps me stay grounded when life gets chaotic.

2. Batch Tasks Like a Boss

I group similar tasks so I’m not constantly context-switching.

Emails? Check every day 2 – 3 times a day. Social media? When I have some downtime. Assignments? Knock them out in chunks before the weekend.

3. Say No Like You Mean It

Saying no doesn’t make you less helpful, it makes you more intentional. Your time is a limited resource. Protect it!

4. Ask for Help

We are not meant to do this alone. Lean on your team, your classmates, your friends, whoever helps you keep your head above water, and be accountable.

5. Give Yourself Grace

Some days you’ll crush it. On other days you’ll stare at your computer eating your snacks and questioning everything. Both are okay. Keep going.

Why This Matters (Besides Your Sanity)

When you prioritize you, you show up better for:

  • Your clients
  • Your team
  • Your goals
  • Your peace of mind

This business moves fast. Life moves faster. So, take a breath, check in with yourself, and know that even when it feels like you're juggling too much—you’re doing better than you think.

Let’s Talk About You

Now I want to hear from you.

💬 Are you balancing real estate with another career, school, parenting—or all the above?

💡 Got a time management strategy that’s changed your life?

😂 Or maybe atoday I scheduled three meetings at the same timemoment?

Let’s share our stories and support each other through the beautiful chaos of this business.
